Welcome to the Railyard

Hello all!
My name is Connor. I'm the Volunteer Yardmaster at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. I've decided to start a blog, with postings of the rolling stock out in the yard, as well as doings in and around the yard. Hopefully, I can please my readers with what I write. If you want anything in particular or want a certain car/engine to be viewed I would be happy to oblige. My first posting will come later this week, with photos, info, and maybe even a small film. Also, feel free to ask questions in the comments.

I hope to entertain and delight all my readers. I hope that you all will come out and see us!

Hey Connor,

Welcome to the wide wonderful world of blogging. Now do me a favor, spit-shine those kitchens ready for me.

Yes, all of them.

I'll be seeing you soon.

I know safety is a concern and so is protecting the equipment. But I think the VMofT would do better if you got to see the inside more of the rolling stock they have. I visited for the first time since they moved from Wasena and I have to say it was somewhat of a disappointment. Not bad but not great. There has to be a way to see the inside to as that just as interesting. I'll come again once they return the 611 & 1218. How long does it take to fix a track anyway? Why is N&S taking so long? Hope to see more pics. thanks.

IT is a concern of the museum to keep the patrons safe. Now hopefully when the engines are returned to us, we can get the 1218 ready for patrons. Now as of the rest of the stock, some of the diesels are, and can be seen by the public. Maybe when we get them back into there proper places, we can allow people into them again.

And about the track, It takes a while sometimes, NS is a big company, and they operate trains for a living. So give them time, it can take a few days. Ill post a new post this afternoon, when i get my photos and such.

Now that the 1218 and 611 are back I'll be making another visit soon. Hope there will be more to see this time. Don't know what was missing other than the 2 steam engines since like I said before I hadn't been there since it was at Wasena. The train collection is much larger than what I remember. I WAS only 7 back then. I know there are smaller things missing. Some old cars and a bread truck. I think the 1218 was there at the Wasena location but don't think the 611 was. What happened to the little train that you could ride? Did the flood of 85 get it or was it sold? Is the miniature working train display the same one they had there? Have a few other questions but will save them for another time. thanks

Well its changed a little, but its close to teh same, the train was taken by the flood (By my knowledge) and its not the same train set, but its a more impressive one in my opinion!
I hope you enjoy your visit, and if you want, Email me at Genmacconnor@cox.net if you want to ask things ^^
